Bajaj takes U-turn to romance 100cc bikes

Bajaj Auto Ltd, the country’s second leading two wheeler maker has planned to come again into the 100cc motorcycle segment. It stopped it for past two years.

Further the company has outcome that it will be releasing the 100cc segment with new offerings in this year. Six months back it has released a 125 cc variant of Platina and it also added a hope for not proceeding further in the 100cc variant for movement in the coming years.

Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, BAL said that the company is expecting the figure to be above 20,000 units per month for this motorcycle.

Moreover the figures have their own history however the company did not denote any explanation for the volte face. Adding in the past two years the sales in the 100cc segment have observed a free fall which has been appropriately oppressed by Hero Honda.

The overall sales of Bajaj got reduced by 20% to 16.79 lakh bikes in the year 2007-08. However in the same year the leader Hero Honda has attained a 0.23% growth in the sales.

An industry specialist said that discarding Hero Honda Bikes and breaking up the 100cc segment in general was a little over the peak. As this is an expanded market the concentration should be in all segments in all periods to confine it.
