hyundai i30 Variants
Hyundai has tasted success with their 'i' range of cars in India, namely the i10 and the i20. Infact, with the i20, they have shown that Indians are now indeed ready to shell out extra money over other rivals for a premium package. The i30 could be the next one from Hyundai for the Indian market. We believe that the company might launch the i30 in India early next year at around a lakh more than the i20's sticker price. This means that the base version of the i30 should start around the Rs 6 lakh mark, going all the way to around Rs 8.5 for the top end diesel model.
If launched in India, it will be the latest i30 version that has been showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The newer version, as seen here, looks sleeker and modern as compared to the one on sale in international markets. It makes use of Hyundai's fluidic design philosophy that is now visible on products like the new Verna. The i30 is a huge product and will be longer and wider than the i20. That means that the i30 will have cabin space more than some of the sedans in the under Rs 10 lakh bracket in the Indian market. The cabin of the new i30, as seen here, is very modern and futuristic in design. Use of aluminum has been done at various places and like other Hyundai models, the i30 too will get blue backlightning for the dials and buttons at night.
Knowing what Hyundai has done with the i20 in India, we expect the i30 to have both petrol and diesel engine options with both manual and automatic transmission on sale as well. The petrol range will include the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines that are also seen on the new Verna. Likewise, the diesel options will also include the 1.4 and 1.6 engines seen on the new Verna Diesel. The top end i30 will come with multiple air-bags, ABS, alloy wheels, steering controls, electrically adjustable driver's seat etc. Pricing for the new Hyundai i30 in India, when launched, will be between Rs 7.5 to Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. The new i30 could signal the oncoming of the premium hatchbacks in India and only Hyundai can pull off something like this especially with the brand loyalty and the huge dealership range that it has in India. We are waiting with our fingers crossed for this one!
Pros: Stunning looks, Quality, Features
Cons: Looks similar to i20, Expensive!, Overly black interiors
The cabin of the new i30, as seen here, is very modern and futuristic in design. Use of aluminum has been done at various places and like other Hyundai models, the i30 too will get blue backlightning for the dials and buttons at night. There is a large TFT Supervision cluster providing a wide range of essential information to the driver. Other goodies include a Dual-zone climate control and the addition of a panoramic sunroof which provides increased natural light within the cabin. The panoramic sunroof has been designed to open fully or tilt open, offering passengers flexibility and functionality.
The boot space of the Hyundai i30 stands at a massive 378 litres which is even more than some of the similar priced sedans in India.
The speedometer console of the Hyundai i30 is very stylish and gets a blue back-lightning which makes it even more beautiful at night. The console also houses a driver info display.
The gear lever of the i30 gets leather treatment in the top end version with chrome inserts. It feels nice to hold and offers positive gear shifts
There are umpteen cup holders in the i30 which adds to the practicality touch. The higher versions also get a front arm rest.
Hyundai is making one of the best looking cars in its class and if there is any evidence for that, just look at the i30. The newer version, as seen here, looks sleeker and modern and just like the smaller i20 is full of curves and slashes. It makes use of Hyundai's fluidic design philosophy that is now visible on products like the new Verna. The i30 is a huge product and will be longer and wider than the i20. The i30 has an overall length of 4300 mm, width of 1780mm and height of 1470mm. Thus as said earlier the i30 is a big car and carries presence in spades. That means that the i30 will have cabin space more than some of the sedans in the under Rs 10 lakh bracket in the Indian market.
Engine & Performance
Knowing what Hyundai has done with the i20 in India, we expect the i30 to have both petrol and diesel engine options with both manual and automatic transmission on sale as well. The petrol range will include the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines that are also seen on the new Verna. Likewise, the diesel options will also include the 1.4 and 1.6 engines seen on the new Verna Diesel. We expect the diesel 1.4 at 90PS to be the best seller though at the top end the 1.6 will have 128 PS and will be a hot hatch!
Mileage and Running Costs
The i30 will have both 1.4 and 1.6 petrol and diesel engines just like the Verna and expect good efficiency figures as well with around 17 kmpl for the petrol and 20-22 kmpl for the diesel versions.

Handling Braking & Safety
The i30 is a big hatch and drives like one as well so expect proper handling and a more sportier set-up than the i20. Active safety features include ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (anti-lock braking system), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and Emergency Stop Signal. In terms of passive safety, the new-generation i30 will be fitted with six airbags as standard? front, side and curtain - while a driver's knee airbag is optional.
Comfort & Suspension
Hyundai cars offer a nice soft ride and the i30 will be no different. The i30 front suspension includes Fully independent subframe-mounted MacPherson struts, with coil springs and gas-filled shock absorbers. Anti-roll stabiliser bar while the rear suspension is Fully independent subframe-mounted multi-links, coil springs and gas-filled shock absorbers.
