Hi All,

I am a new member of Gaadi. Would be really happy if members could guide me and resolve my doubts. Thanks everyone in advance.

I currently own a Jan 2005 Tata Indigo Marina (Diesel) and am reasonably satisfied with it in terms of the space & fuel effeciency it offers; the flip side is ofcourse lack of refinement & average build quality. We are a family of 4 with frequent visitors (parents/ inlaws).

I am looking forward to replacing it early next year and require help in identifying which car to buy. My wishlist is as under:

1. Good build quality to last for atleast next 5 years (MOST IMPORTANT)

2. Contemporary in looks

3. Should seat around 6-7 people (ideally but NOT mandatory)

4. Budget around 9-11 lacs

5. Good ride quality and economical to maintain & run

Also I would be using the car mainly in the city (Mumbai) and an occasional weekend trip; which would mean clocking average of 1000 kms per month.

First of all I am still wondering if it makes sense for me to go in for a diesel car at all. It definitely feels lighter on the wallet when going to tank up but may mean more money spent on servicing!!!

If its diesel to go in for I am considering the Toyota Innova and the Scoprpio mHawk. Let me know which is the overall better between the two. I am also considering the New Honda City though the lack of a diesel option is a slight negative if I go in for that.

Hello Mr. Sumit. Well with your kinda preference, I would advise you to go for Tata Safari DICOR engine. Its indeed an awesome car with rich driving experience. otherwise, you can also think for Ford Fusion, its one the most ultimate car with tremendous features and best in its class. Ford Fusion would costs you arnd 7.5 top version. rest u can evaluate accordingly

Hello Harsh and Uday, Thank you both for your useful replies. The general perception i get from people I know is that ford and GM cars are higher to maintain over the long term vis-a-vis Japanese cars. When it comes to Tata, no doubt Safari is a great car but I feel they will take some more time before they can match up to Japanese car standards. I am saying this from personal experience since own a Tata marina which is again a great Value for money car but build quality & refinement levels are not very good. Thats the reason I feel I should buy a Japanese car. Innova is too bulky thats the only thing negative about it. Like I said I am contemplating petrol vs Diesel. So if its petrol you suggest then I may look at NHC or SX4; do you think its worth buying diesel car given my usage pattern?

Hello Mr. Sumit,
Maruti Suzuki cars are known for low maintenance.
To check viability of a diesel, you should workout total lifecycle cost of prospective purchase. you could find such eavaluations of cars on yahoo autos.

Hello,
your budget is 9-11 lakh and I think Tata Safari is the only vehicle which suits best on your requirements. its a great vehicle in terms of design, power, balance and most important thing is its space. you will feel something different when u drive a Safari. I have Tata Safari Ex from last two years and its really worthfull to buy a safari. A great machine Safari.

Dont go for Honda CITY. Maintenance is too high. Service is Poor. You realize when u own it. Customer service is poor. I think Innova will be a good one
