Uttar Pradesh Tourism is going to launch a new scheme to promote tourism in the state and to attract more tourists. Called the ‘Lucknow by cycle’ the new tourism is not only aimed at promoting tourism, but specifically cycle tourism in UP. This scheme will first be implemented in the city of Lucknow, followed by which it will also be introduced for the tourists of the heritage cities of Varanasi as well as Agra.
The Director General of UP tourism, Amrit Abhijat while commenting on his development said that under this scheme which to be implemented from the end of January onwards, the bicycles will also be provided to the tourists on rent basis in order to make this scheme a proper success.
Abhijat also mentioned that such schemes are available in many countries including China, where bicycles are offered on daily rent basis at local levels in some cities to offer an economical and greenway to the tourists to visit the sightseeing spots.
He added by saying that such schemes are also popular in cities of Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam and London in order to promote tourism. It is the UP tourism effort to create and offer such similar cycle tourism to the tourists starting with the launch of ‘Lucknow by cycle’.
He further added by saying that there are many narrow and small lanes in the cities of Varanasi, Lucknow as well as Agra where it is possible to access by cars. In such narrow lanes which also offer shortcuts to various tourist spots, bicycles can easily access and make it convenient for the tourists.
The Deputy General further revealed that keeping the popularity of the heritage walk in mind; the state tourism department has come to the decision of making cycle tour a part of its tourism. Various people of India from the different rungs of life come to visit Varanasi and Agra, the heritage cities, and many of them might not be able to afford the expensive rental cars to tour around the cities. For such tourists, the cycle tour will be very beneficial and economical. The cycle tour will also offer unique experience for the foreign tourists who love to cycle around to observe and experience the Indian culture closely.
He also revealed that in the initial stage the 8 geared bicycles would be offered by the Uttar Pradesh tourism on a rent basis for Rs. 200. He also said that the tour will begin from the Residency and will end at the Shahnajaf Imambara via the Chotta as well as the Bara Imambaras. There will also be a guide ho would accompany the tourists throughout the tour of the city and will offer information about all the important sights.
About the similar schemes in Varanasi and Agra, he said that this scheme will be most popular in Varanasi as the tourists there have to pass through many narrow lanes. He said that the foreign tourists will also feel more comfortable with the scheme.
