Harry Crane and Edmund established Hercules Cycles on 9th September 1910. The founders registered the name as Hercules Cycles and Motor Company. The name Hercules was finalized because of the durability, reliability and the robust nature of the products being manufactured under the Hercules brand.
By 1923, the company started manufacturing all the main components of their bicycles apart from tyres and inner tubes. The requirement of tubes was fulfilled by TI Group who was the main supplier to Hercules. TI Group acquired Hercules Cycles in 1949 and in 1959, a joint-venture with Diamond chains, USA, brought both Hercules and TI chains to India.
TI Group deals with many international brands, but Hercules being the first brand of TI Cycles, still enjoys the signifying strength and passion in each endeavour. 200th Hercules store was inaugurated in 2012 and was awarded with ET Retail Award for excellence in Rural Retailing. Turbo Drive and Top Gear were first introduced by the Hercules company in India, making the geared mountain bike popular amongst the kids as well as youngsters.
