Gaadi Road Test Verdict
Modern India’s largest selling car seems to be breaking records every month. The Alto has been Maruti’s biggest grosser for years now and the company does know how to play this game well. To start with, today, the Alto is available in three different variants – the original good old one with an 800cc engine, a company fitted CNG version and the new, modern and improved version called the Alto K10. While the original 800cc Alto caters very well to the semi urban and rural areas, it is the new K10 model that is having a dream run in urban and metro cities.
It looks miles ahead of its older cousin with modern design touches like sharper headlamps, classier front end and new tail lamps. It also has better interiors which are more practical and ofcourse a peppier engine as well. The K10 offers one of the best “performance per rupee” ratios in the Indian market. Being light weight, the KB10 engine gives the Alto K10 exciting performance and driving characteristics. Infact, in traffic, the K10 is very peppy and responds well to driver’s inputs. Like a typical Maruti, the K10 is extremely fuel efficient as well.
Maruti also offers the older Alto with a company fitted CNG system. Needless to say, the CNG does help you in saving tons loads of money per month though at the cost of boot space and ofcourse wasting time in long queues for filling up the tank. Maruti offers the Alto in eight variants including two three CNG ones. At this price, we don’t think there is any other car in the market that can match up to the Maruti Alto. The only drawback we see with the Alto is its limited interior space.

Maruti Alto Lxi
I bought an Alto Lxi recently ( a red one) and I like it. It has resonably good pickup and easy to drive and park in the cities. Though I had to spent few thousands for getting the bumper same color as the body, getting an undercoating (based on the suggestion that an undercoating is good for the rainy roads), floor mats, wheel cups, mud guards and window tinting. You could negotiate these extra necessary fittings with the dealer during the sales negotiations and get it done by them at free of cost or at a discounted rate. I went for a long drive about 500 Km on the first day itself (with five people including the driver) and the car performed reasonably well on highways and we didnot face any problems even though the road condition was bad some times. The mileage was excellent, we got about 18-20 km/litre. Its A/c also works very well. I recommend Lxi with power steering because the car is easy to handle in the crowded cities. Overall I am very happy with this car. I would give a rating of very good for this car. I think this is an excellent economical car for a small family and very good for city driving. read more
my true companion maruti alto vx 1.1 since last 8 years
I have a 1.1 vx 2001 model and i am driving it since then and done approximately 74k km on it now and its moving on with least cost to own. if you have more than 4 adults each in a range of 5.5 feet's(i am 5.8 feets) and above that would travel regularly, then dont opt for any alto , but if its occasional and you just want to have a good city car nothing could match its ease in terms of parking maintenance mileage 800 cc is a little underpowered as compared to older 1.1 cc , but again this is a good city car + fair occasional highway car. read more
GO FOR IT.
Value for money. Except being bit cramped interiors (tall or fat persons will find it less comfortable) and dragging while A/C is on, an ideal car for a small middle class family. read more
