Tata Safari Storme launch might happen next month

Tata-Safari-Storme

Tata Motors first showcased the next-generation Safari dubbed ‘Storme’ at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and now after almost five months later, the Storme could be headed for a formal launch next month. Some reports suggest that the new Safari Storme could drive into showrooms across India by late June or early July. Now, the Storme won’t replace the current Safari, in fact it will take place as a more premium offering from Tata Motors.

The Storme employs a much lighter and modern construction unlike the standard Safari. Having said that, it is expected to priced upwards of Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom with the Safari being the entry-level model. The Storme on the other hand will be available in both 2WD and 4WD variants with a 2.2 liter DiCOR engine from the Aria at its heart. The powerplant chugs out 140 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1700-2700 rpm.

Following the formal unveiling during the Auto Expo, everyone had thought the SUV would launched soon, however the actual launch date was pushed ahead. Tata Motors have retained the ladder-on-frame construction which should make the SUV cope with rough terrain . In addition to this, the low-ratio gearbox comes as a bonus. All said, Tata Motors seems all set to take on the Mahindra XUV500 with (the) ‘Storme’.
