Tata Nano Diesel to be launched in March 2014
Tata Nano is the world’s cheapest car and brings a decent list of features. Tata has been working on the diesel Nano for quite some time now. Nano diesel is expected to be launched as early as March 2013 with a diesel engine. Given that diesel is cheaper owing to subsidies from the Government, Nano diesel should boost the sales for the small car.
For the Indian car buyer the Nano doesn’t seem to appeal very much. This has eventually led to the decline in sales for the Tata Nano in our car market. The sales for Nano has dropped considerably in the last few months. Compared to the previous financial year Nano is selling 6,000 units/month as opposed to more than 27,000 units/month last year.
Tata Nano is currently available in a petrol engine variant only but a CNG variant is expected to be launched later in the year. Tata Nano is currently available in three variants; Tata Nano STD priced at ex-showroom New Delhi price of 1.5 Lakhs, middle variant Tata Nano CX is priced at 1.95 Lakhs ex-showroom New Delhi and the Top Variant of Tata Nano is priced at 2.2 lakhs.
The diesel engine variant of the Tata Nano can be expected at a premium of around 60,000 over the petrol engine variant. But, given the fuel efficiency that the diesel will deliver the Nano diesel will in all possibility deliver a very high fuel economy.
