The 2012 Defence Expo played host to the Tata Mobile Bunker, an armoured personnel carrier based on the Tata LPA 713, 4-wheel drive platform. This vehicle can be used to carry military personnel through naxal infested parts of the country safely. In recent times, there have been multiple accounts of road side mines used to target police and para-military personnel in states like Chattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra among others.
The Mobile Bunker powered by a 155 bhp, 550 Nm engine features- high power-to-weight ratio for faster and agile movement, NIJ Level III ballistic protection on all sides and for the roof, firing ports and roof hatch for retaliatory action, excellent gradeability and high ground clearance for all terrain usage, AC unit provided for better ventilation inside the vehicle and is CMVR certified. It is capable of a top speed of 80 kmph and has a payload capacity of 1 tonne.
