So it’s Alto 800 and not the M800 replacement

Every new launch from Maruti Suzuki is preceded by intense excitement among the buyers. What could be the most awaited launches of the year, the Maruti Suzuki 800 cc small car (earlier thought to be the M800 replacement) would definitely get the shutterbugs clicking. Earlier we had seen a few spyshots of the upcoming car which didn't reveal much in terms of details. Now though, folks at Cardekho have managed to get hold of some clear images of the car complete with name badges.

So it's Alto 800 and not the M800 replacement, after all. At first glance, the car looks like a product of the union between a Figo and A-Star with a tail lamp from the Hyundai i20. 'Good looking' would be an overstatement to say the least. Having said that, the new Alto does seem to offer better headroom and increased interior space thanks to the raised roof line. The current Alto does suffer from the lack of adequate headroom and has proved to be extremely claustrophobic for tall drivers.

Maruti Suzuki designers have reworked every surface including the front and rear bumper, headlights and tail lamps, the rear boot lid etc. The interior too is new and is apparently an improvement over the current Alto. At the heart of the car will be an 800 cc petrol engine which should be tweaked and tuned for better performance and more importantly, mileage. Since, it ain't Maruti, if it ain't economical, right?
