Hero MotoCorp has been heading the two-wheeler segment in India for years now and at the heart of their strategy has been the mass-segment. Yesterday we ran the story of how Hero's long lost Japanese partner- Honda has been eyeing the same entry-level commuter segment to boost their market share. Honda recently launched the Dream Yuga kicking off their offensive against the segment leaders. Now, there are reports that Yamaha Motor India is also planning to enter the mass-market with a low-cost, highly efficient bike aimed at the more cost conscious buyer.

This will be Yamaha's third bike in this segment after the YBR 110 and the Crux. Bajaj Auto Limited- one of the indigenous bike makers offers a range of products in a wider price band. The Bajaj Boxer was one such entry level offering from the Pune based bike maker which the company plans to revive in the form of a utilitarian bike for rural India. At present the Platina 100 is being offered in the mass-segment. The Platina rivals Hero MotoCorp's Splendour range of commuter bikes.
