Nissan India to launch Sylphy sedan in 2014?

According to a report published by Autocar India, Nissan is planning to launch an new sedan to rival the likes of Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Skoda Laura and their sister car maker’s Renault Fluence. The sedan car goes by the name of Sylphy in other Asian markets and could debut in India in 2014. The Sylphy will be placed between the Teana and the Sunny, thus bridging the gap between the two cars with the Teana being the more premium of the two.

Nissan would have to deal with a pretty tough competition in a segment that is crowded with Japanese and European cars. Also, Nissan India is known to price their products at a higher price compared to others in the segment. We’ve seen this before when they launched the Micra hatchback. That said, like the Sunny which boasts of ‘best in class’ rear legroom, the Sylphy too is known for being the most spacious when compared to its competition.

The car will be available in both petrol and diesel models. The 1.5 litre diesel engine form the Fluence would take the place of the 1.8 litre petrol motor which will also be on offer. Mated to the engines will be either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Sounds good enough, then. The 2012 Beijing auto show was when the Sylphy was first showcased and we can’t wait to find out how the Indian customer react to this car.
