Honda launched the new generation CR-V crossover in Dubai, UAE yesterday. The new SUV first went on sale in the United States of America following its official preview at the 2011 New York international auto show. The 4th generation of the Honda CR-V was also unveiled in Manila, Philippines. That said, the CR-V that will be available to the folks in the gulf will be powered by a 2.4 litre petrol engine.

The in-line 4-cylinder engine has an output of 188 bhp, a tad higher than the predecessor. Torque too has seen bump and now clocks in at 222 Nm and drives the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission in normal mode and can still send power to the rear axle whenever necessary. Now, the Honda CR-V will be coming to India replacing the 3rd generation which is currently being sold.

The SUV market in India has seen ups and downs lately and hence we expect Honda to bring-in a diesel mill on the Indian CR-V. Also an automatic box would allow the car to take on the Toyota Fortuner which has been going up Honda’s nose for quite some time. Finally, the new CR-V, though being a little bit smaller on the exterior looks pretty decently proportioned. The car gets new interiors and a host other active and passive safety features and creature comforts.
