Mercedes-Benz’s truck division will launch the new Antos- a heavy-duty short-radius distribution truck in the month of September, 2012. The new heavy-duty commercial vehicle will be showcased at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle IAA. The highlights of the new product includes better fuel-efficiency and handling. The first renderings released by Mercedes bear a stark resemblance with the Actros range of trucks. The Antos will get a 2.3 meter wide cab designed specifically for the unique role it is supposed to play and will be available in either short or medium size versions.
Latest Euro VI range of engines from the New Engine Generation will be bolted into the engine bay with power options ranging from 175 kW (238 hp) to 375 kW (510 hp). The new vehicles are available as either platform trucks or tractor units with a range of 67 wheelbase lengths, varying from 2650 mm at one end of the scale to 6700 mm at the other. The driver is helped in his everyday duties by a fully automated PowerShift transmission, amongst other features. Safety can also be further improved by the addition of optional systems such as Active Brake Assist, which now reacts to both stationary and moving obstacles.
