Mahindra launches Quanto compact-SUV in India: Price starting from Rs. 5.81 lac (ex-showroom, Thane)
Mahinda & Mahindra has launched the much awaited Quanto compact-SUV in India. Like the XUV500, Quanto is also expected to be a game changer for the car maker. The car is available in four variants, viz. C2, C4, C6 and C8 and is priced at Rs 5.82lakh for C2 , Rs. 6.35 lakh for C4, Rs. 6.86 lakh for C6 and 7.36 lakh for C8. The Quanto rivals products like the Premier Rio which is currently the only compact SUV being offered priced around the Rs 5 lakh mark.
Under the hood is the same 1.5 liter, mCR100 diesel engine with 100 bhp on tap. Torque is rated at 240 Nm and is available from 1600 rpm all the way up to 2800 rpm. ARAI has rated the Quanto to achieve a fuel efficiency figure of 17.21 kmpl! The car is based on the tried and tested Xylo platform with a chopped off rear. This was done primarily with an aim to reduce the overall length of the vehicle to under 4 meters which allows Mahindra to save on excise costs. Thus, it will be safe to say that customers will get the benefit of the tax exemption.
From the front, the Quanto resembles the Xylo in more than one way. In profile, the car does look a bit unconventional, however the rear mounted spare wheel does render it with a side profile that isn’t too bad on the eye. The interior of the car too is like the Xylo. Like its big brother, the Quanto to gets a digital clock atop the dashboard with similar dials and a steering wheel which again is borrowed from the same car. The driver’s seat gets an armrest which should make highway cruising a comfortable.
The rear passengers get bench seats while there is an option of a third row of seats as well. The third row does eat into the luggage space but it also means seating for 7 people rather than 5. The top variant gets active safety features like airbags and ABS. Rear wash/wiper, 2DIN music system, foldable snack trays, roof rails, electric ORVMs are the other feature being offered. Customers have an option 6 six different colours to choose from as well.
