Along with their new-found partners in India, Hyosung and DSK have launched the GT 250 R sports bike. The new bike that is to take on the Honda CBR 250R and the Ninja 250R is priced at Rs 2.75 lakh ex-showroom Delhi which seems a bit on the higher side considering the fact that the CBR is priced much lower. That said, the DSK Hyosung do plan to commence CKD operations which will help shave Rs 1.5 lakh off the asking price.
Still, this will take some time before we can have a competitively priced 250 cc sports bike. The main difference between the CBR 250R and the Hyosung 250 is the fact that, the Honda uses a single cylinder engine unlike the GT 250 R which runs a twin-cylinder, liquid cooled motor. The V-twin engine puts out 28 PS of maximum power and 22 Nm of torque. A five-speed transmission allows the rider to seamlessly access the 28 horsepower.
The bike will be available across 18 DSK Hyosung dealerships in the next five days. As part of their expansion plans, the bike maker would invest into a new assembly unit which would allow them to shift to CKD production from the current CBU setup. The new unit is expected to be operational in next 18 months. The bike maker is also aiming to achieve 90 percent localisation which would further allow them to price their products at a competitive price.
