USP: Efficiency, practicality!
Honda cars India is all set to showcase the 7 searter Mobilio at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo at Greater Noida, on the outskirts of New Delhi. We drove this new MPV in Japan today and needless to say, are impressed.
The Mobilio will be positioned between the existing Maruti Ertiga and the premium Toyota Innova. The Mobilio when launched in the 2nd quarter of next calender year, will come with both a petrol and a diesel unit. The latter is expected to be based on the same 1.5-litre motor that powers the Amaze diesel as well. However, for the Mobilio, expect a different state of tune along with higher torque figures.
The Honda Mobilio will come with an ARAI rated economy of over 20 kmpl. The standard 7 seater will get features like ABS, airbags, steering controls et al on the higher variants. We experienced this new MPV first hand in Japan today and we must say that Honda’s “man maximum, machine minimum” concept has paid off. The 2nd row, like the Ertiga, is slidable for extra / less knee room.
The Mobilio also gets revised 2nd row doors, that provide better visibility all around with higher glass area. Expect the petrol Mobilio (with the 1.5-litre petrol engine) to start at around the Rs 6 lac mark. The diesel models should start at a lac extra. An automatic (with the petrol) at this point is ruled out but our fingers are still crossed!
We are told the Mobilio gets brilliant ergonomics and great visibility all around. The ease of driving gets carried over from the Amaze and the Mobilio overcomes its weight and size easily once on the move – now isn’t this something that all of us would appreciate?
