Launched in 1999 as luxury crossover, the BMW X5 lived through a decade without much competition offered by the other brands. The German manufacturer, BMW describes the vehicle uniquely as Sport Activity Vehicle because of its on-road presence and off-road capabilities.
The second generation of the vehicle also known as E70 was launched in 2007 and is still making its presence felt in the world of SUVs. The E70 became the first vehicle to use FlexRay, which is used to control the chassis damping system.
Scheduled to get a mid-life upgrade in 2013, the new X5 built on all new platform which is said to be all aluminum chassis is spotted testing at the Nurburgring with of-course, the heavy camouflage on the vehicle. The F15 BMW X5 which might come to showrooms in 2013 is rumored to be powered by four-cylinders instead of V8 engine that’s currently supplying power to the vehicle. The combustion engine of the 2013 X5 might get additional support from the BMW’s ActiveHybrid technology which uses Brake Energy Regeneration technology to reduce the fuel consumption and the emissions.
The new upgrade might also find its way into India at the same time it is launched globally.
