BMW launches the 1-series in India priced at base price of Rs. 20.90 lakhs
The long wait shrouding the launch of BMW’s own cheap car in the luxury market ends finally. The 1-Series is officially launched in India with 4-variants. Competing with the recently launched A-Class from the Mercedes stable recently, the one class employs some of the unique features, which makes the car very different from the others in its segment. The car follows the BMW design language with the relatively small kidney grille set-up and sweeping headlamps which has features the trademark BMW corona daytime running LED lamps. The 1-series looks premium in its own ways with LED treated tail lamps and smooth bodylines.
Mechanically, the BMW 1-series is far ahead from the other premium hatchbacks. The car is the only longitudinally placed engine vehicle and offers optimum driving pleasure. The engine is placed in the front and sends power to the front wheels making it one of the most thrilling hatchbacks to drive. BMW is providing two engine options with the BMW 1-series in India.
The petrol model is a 1.6-liter twin-turbo charged motor producing 136bhp of maximum power while the diesel is a more powerful with 157bhp of maximum power with 2.0 litre of displacement. Both the engine options are mated with advanced eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and is standard across all models. The 116i, 118d and 118d Sport Line run on 16-inch alloy wheels but the 118d Sport Line gets the Star-Spoke style alloys while the Sport Plus 118d gets the bigger looking more sporty 17-inch alloy wheels that looks majestic with its authoring stance.
From the inside, the car gets many unique features to boast about. The seats are wrapped in high quality leather and there is the iDrive interface for the driver and the car and displays information about the car.
The iDrive system also lets you to connect your phone and update Twitter and Facebook seamlessly from the 8.8-inch display screen itself. The special features include Park Distance Control, which makes sure that you park the 1-series even in the tightest spots.
The BMW 1-series, is priced strategically at Rs. 20.90 lakhs for the petrol engine variant BMW 1 Series 116i and Rs. 22.90 lakhs for base diesel 1 series 118d and will take on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class head on. The 1-series is available in 3 diesel engine variants and one petrol variant. The petrol 116i along with the base diesel model 118d gets features like fog lights, ECO PRO driving feature, manual Air Conditioner, start/stop button, steering mounted audio controls, park distance control, ABS, 6-airbags, runflat tyres with runflat indicators. The Sport Line and Sport Plus get extra features.
