Toyota is likely to launch its much awaited small car Etios in India by the end of the year. The company is also going to look at the possibility of launching a hybrid version of its proposed small car.
“We are looking at every possible alternative to launch Etios , apart from diesel and petrol variant , we will study the market and demand for launching the car in other fuel options (LPG and CNG) and hybrid mode , ” said Mitsuhiro Sonoda , President , Asia Pacific , Toyota Motor. “We’ll have to discuss the issue of launching with other fuel options with the government. It will also depend on the availability of infrastructure in the country. We will decide at the appropriate time , ” Sonoda added.
Expecting a robust growth in the market , the Indian component manufacturers are likely to invest heavily in the industry in the coming years. They are expected to invest $3.5 billion every year for the next 10 years to meet the production targets of automakers , according to the Automotive Component Manufacturers' Association (ACMA).
Various Large component vendors are already planning to ramp up their capacity as they are facing strong demand from the market. Some car makers like Bajaj Auto , Hero Honda , Mahindra & Mahindra , and Tata Motors are facing supply crunch due to supply shortfalls in auto components.
“We have never really invested the volume of money expected to be invested now , especially the kind of technology that is going to be used. There is an assumption in the industry that keeping the price index in mind , we could invest something like $3-3.5 billion every year , ” said Jayant Davar , President , ACMA.
Car maker Skoda Auto India has started its art promotion initiative Skoda Prize. It is a platform for various Indian artists to exhibit their body of work. Skoda Prize is likely to join hands with critics , curators , scholars , gallery owners and collectors of India’s art world to showcase the talent of the various artists.
As of now , the car maker Skoda sells its three models Fabia , Laura and Superb in the Indian market.
Tata Motors is going to start the assembly of Land RoverFreelander 2 at the Chikhli facility in Maharashtra from November this year. The Chikhli facility was earlier used by Mercedes Benz. Freelander 2 will be the first car from the stable of Jaguar and Land Rover to be assembled in India.
As of now Tata Motors is carrying out maintenance work the Chikhli facility for preparing it for the assembling of Freelander 2. The plant has capacity to produce 3 , 500 units in single shift. The prices of JLR Freelander 2 are going to be reduced with the local assembling.
The race for buying the auto maker Scooters India has become intense. The new players M&M and Atul Auto have joined the race along with Tata motors and Piaggio. Scooters India is a public sector unit based in Lucknow.
According to sources in the Heavy Industries Ministry all the four suitors have expressed their interest in buying majority 74% stake in Scooters India. However , the companies will give the formal Expression of Interest (EoI) only after the Cabinet approval. Buying a majority stake in the company will enable a company to explore the fast growing scooter segment in the north Indian states.
