India's leading bike maker Hero Honda Motors Ltd. is considering to export its products to Africa. The joint venture partners Hero Group of India and Honda Motor of Japan are discussing the possibilities.
According to the joint venture agreement between the two companies , Hero Honda Motors is not supposed to export products to large markets where Honda has its own assembly units. Hero Honda sells one of every two motorcycles and scooters sold in India.
India's second largest bike maker Bajaj Auto has launched a new Platina 125. The electric start version is priced at Rs 36 , 000 (ex-showroom Bangalore). The new Platina is equipped with electric start and 5-speed gear box.
“The new bike makes for easy commuting even on rough roads and provides amazing value for money. We believe this offering would reinforce our presence in the entry level bike segment.” said S Sridhar , CEO (Two Wheeler) , Bajaj Auto Ltd.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is looking at establishing another manufacturing plant in Haryana. The company already has one plant with capacity of 1.5 million units at Manesar in the state.
As of now HMSI is conducting a study on establishing the second plant in the state. According to N K Rattan , Operating Head , Sales and Marketing , HMSI , the first plant has reached its 'maximum' capacity. The company may announce the location of the second plant in March 2010.
Two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is likely to launch 250cc bikes in the last half of 2010. According to sources , the bike is likely to hit the market before Diwali. The bike is likely to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh.
According to sources , R&D work on the bike is complete and trial production will begin in the next three months. It will be the first offering of HMSI in this segment. The company is also likely to launch upgraded versions of 125cc Shine and 150cc Unicorn before Diwali in 2010.
Pulsar 135LS , the new product by two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto has seen great success with 50 , 000 units sold in its first 75 days after the launch. It is a new record for the company. The bike , priced at Rs 51 , 000 (ex-showroom Delhi) , is powered with a state of the art 4-valve DTS-i engine delivering 13.5 Ps power.
“With the launch of the Pulsar 135LS , our aim was to democratise the thrill of biking by making performance accessible. Not only have expert bikers and specialist auto magazines and channels greatly appreciated the bike , the response from customers too has been overwhelming , ” said S.
