Renault may pull out of a joint factory project in Chennai and it will freeze product plans due to the global slowdown.The Rs 4 , 500 crore car manufacturing project earlier it was set up as a three-way joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra , Renault SA and Nissan Motor , but M&M pulled out from the project owing to multiple partner approach by Nissan. Currently the project is running as a 50:50 venture between Renault and Nissan.
"Renault may pull out of a joint factory project in Chennai , India , with Japanese affiliate Nissan. It's possible that we abandon the project completely. It depends on market conditions , " chief financial officer Thierry Moulonguet said.
He also added that Renault-Nissan alliance will make a decision on the project soon.Renault India spokesperson denied his company had any plans to pull out of the project which aims to make and sell four lakh vehicles.
A Nissan India spokesperson merely said "we have no comments to make with regard to Renault CFO statement".Earlier Nissan had admitted that only one of the two product assembly lines scheduled for Chennai would now go on-stream and it was initially planning to make two sub compacts at Chennai.

Ford India has upgraded the ZXi variant to lure the customer and to enhance the driving experience. Hyundai Motor India launches the new Verna in four variants with luxurious interiors and improved exterior features with prices (ex-showroom) ranging from Rs 637 , 700 to Rs 865 , 350.The new Verna has been introduced six new colours.
On the occasion , H S Lheem , managing director , HMIL , said , “Hyundai Verna is a proven success in India and the new variant which also comes with an automatic transmission - a first for this segment -- will further enhance customer delight and satisfaction. With the launch of the new Verna , we have once again raised the competitive bar for style , performance , safety and driving dynamics in India's mid-size car segment.”
The new Verna range includes two petrol variants 1.6 VTVT & 1.6 SX VTVT and two diesel variants - 1.5 CRDi VGT & 1.5 SX CRDi VGT. Hyundai has also introduced automatic transmission in top diesel VGT SX variant , making it the first diesel Automatic Transmission in its segment. Coming to mill , the 1.6 litre petrol variant develops an impressive 103.2PS@5500 rpm as maximum power and 14.9 kgm@3000 rpm of maximum torque. The 1.5 litre diesel variant develops a whopping power output of 110 ps@4000 rpm and an impressive torque of 24 kgm@1900 - 2750 rpm.
The new Verna package also includes aerodynamic styling on the exteriors with a stylish new radiator grille , electrically adjustable ORVM , new chrome insert in waistline moulding , rear chrome garnish and a new full wheel cover for enhanced visual appea to lure the customer.The interiors of the new Verna hosts several significant design revisions with premium , sophisticated new fabrics and detailed improvements in quality and finish.The audio system is equipped with 2 DIN Music System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. Coming to colours , the new Verna has been available in six new colours Blushing Red , Stone Black , Crystal White , Champagne Gold , Sleek Silver & Deep Ocean Blue.

Fiat India launches its mid-sized Linea , available in both multijet diesel and fire petrol engine versions. while during the launch , Fiat India CEO Rajeev Kapoor said"Fiat has kept its promise of making this an exciting year for its customers.The launch of the Linea is the first in the line of three launches that Fiat will undertake this year , the other two being Bravo and Grande Punto , " .
"With this car which is equipped with multijet and the fire engine , we hope to make inroads in the C+ segment , " Kapoor added. "We have also ensured that the Linea appeals to a wide range of customers with its petrol and diesel variants and the various options available under each of them , " Kapoor said.
"The car has met with strong success across the world and although Linea has been designed with a strong Italian style , we have also taken into consideration local Indian tastes and requirements and have incorporated this into the IndianLinea , " he said. The car will be manufactured at its Ranjangaon plant near Pune and is the first major launch after the company introduced the Palio Style Multijet last year. The Linea will be available in four colours at the time of the launch-flamenco red , minimal grey , parla champagne and hip hop black.

Fiat India is expected to price its mid-sized Linea sedan at Rs 6.20-8 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 7.30- 9 lakh for the diesel variant. The C segment sedan will be powered by a 1.3 litre diesel engine and 1.4 litre petrol engine. Fiat India which currently retails the Palio , started production of the Linea at its Tata Motors-Fiat facility at Ranjangaon in November 2008.
The company has despatched cars to all its dealers across the country and will start selling the car from this month and the company which expects to sell 2 , 500 units in the first few months , has an installed capacity of two lakh cars and three lakh power trains annually.
