GM bets big on mini-car for India

In the near close of the year 2009 the mini-car of General Motors India will be revealed. Adding , for its worldwide mini-car the company is challenging for as a massive one.

 

The Indian compact car segment holds the 75% of the sales and this is just One among the effort that was put to concentrate on the compact car segment , said Mr Karl Slym , President & Managing Director.

 

In the Talegaon facility near Pune the mini-car with the codenamed M300 will be rolled out. From GMI’s perspective it is vital since it will be a component of a full-fledged developing operation. Further it is planning to export the M300 to few of the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Moreover , a capacity of 140 , 000 units can be assured from the Talegaon plant and it will be raised to 300 , 000 cars. Also the powertrain capability in the same area has been intended for 160 , 000 diesel and petrol engines and it can develop to 300 , 000 units. The company’s target to use India as an export hub is made lucid with the high counts. The LPG version of the Chevrolet Spark is released by GMI for a price of Rs 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom , Thane).

 

In the year 2008 , half of the total sales came from the Spark. Currently it is produced from the Talegaon plant however will also be from the Gujarat plant once the M300 got revealed.

 

For the bigger models , compressed natural gas is used as other fuel and the LPG choice would only be limited to small cars like the Spark.
