By the start of the year 2010 Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India , the two-wheeler producer is planning to release a 100cc bike. With that the company will enter the high-volume entry level motorcycle and it is anticipated to be priced at about Rs.40 , 000 to 45 , 000.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) President and CEO Shinji Aoyama said that the company will be introducing a novel 100cc bike by the close of this fiscal. The price of the bike will be somewhat higher than the present entry level bikes and it will not be more than that of 125cc bikes.
The company needs to make itself with the market as the Indian two-wheeler market is primarily motorcycle oriented. Also the Hero Honda products will not be cannibalized by the 100cc bike , he added.
Aoyama said that the company is not targeting for huge business with the 100cc segment. However the intention is to please people who require Honda products at that price value.
Also presently Hero Honda took over the100cc segment.
Apart from introducing novel models HMSI has planned to invest Rs 300 crore in the coming three years for expanding its production capacities as publicized previously. Also at the Manesar the company has invested Rs 900 crore in the country.
Further the novel bike is outfitted with PGM-FI (Programme Fuel Injection) technology that provides more power and by the first week of June it will enter the market place.
HMSI anticipates that its bike and scooter sales number will be in equal proportion in future with the release of novel motorcycles. And presently the ratio is 60:40 and the company anticipates it to be 50:50.
Aoyama said that in the previous year the number of units sold was about 10.7 lakh units and in the present year the company is aiming to sell 12.5 lakh units.
Moreover the overall two-wheeler sales in the previous financial year was 74 , 37 , 670 units and among that motorcycles covers 58 , 35 , 145 units , as per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
