2012 VW Polo R Cup race car launched

Volkswagen Motorsport today launched the all new TSI Race Polo for Polo R Cup 2012. Driving the new petrol powered racing hatchbacks will be a 20 young and talented drivers who will compete for the championship this year. This is the first time that the series will use petrol powered Polos. For the last two seasons the teams have had diesel fuel powering their machines. The first race will be held on July 07, 2012 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. This year, the VW Polo R Cup championship will also take place at the new Buddh International F1 circuit.

The TSI Race Polo has a 1.4 litre, direct injection, 4 cylinder engine which produces 180 hp@ 6200 rpm. It’s a two wheel drive with maximum torque of 250 Nm @ 2000-4500 rpm.  This season, the cars get an upgraded Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), doing away with the old manual. A new limited slip differential at the rear will also aid handling while, the DSG coupled to the TSI engine uses a wet clutch setup. That said, the new cars are bit heavier than the old diesel ones.
