GM India launches Chevrolet Tavera Neo-2

General Motors has launched Chevrolet Tavera Neo-2, priced at Rs 9.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). "As a result of the feedbacks received, the Chevrolet Tavera once again raises the bar in terms of features and personal amenities for its segment," GM India President and Managing Director Karl Slym said in New Delhi.
The new Tavera comes with additional features, like a three-spoke steering wheel.With this launch, the company expects to sell around 2,000 units of Tavera Neo-2 per month.
The Tavera has been upgraded inside and out based on the feedback of valued Chevrolet consumers in India. Among its new features are:
* A bold chrome-plated grille inset with a refreshed Chevrolet logo * Sporty styling decals running down its sides * A completely refreshed, dual-tone beige instrument panel with a premium wood-finish centre console * A contemporary and stylish three-spoke steering wheel that offers improved steering control

Mercedes-Benz A-Class will arrive shortly to India

Mercedes-Benz said that there is possibility for introducing its small range A-Class car in India.Market conditions in India are quite dynamic and the luxury-car market is growing by 30-40 per cent annually. "We are evaluating the Indian market regarding price positioning and overall perception of the company as far as the A-Class range is concerned. However, we have not taken any decision so far whether and when to introduce the A-Class car in India," Mercedes Benz COO Rainer Schmuckle said.
"Although, during recent months the growth has slowed down a bit, we are hopeful that the drive will resume within the next 12-18 months," Schmuckle said.Mercedes-Benz is also planning to bring out a series of new hybrid models like S-Class hybrid car in the global market in 2009.Mercedes-Benz is also planning to increase its sourcing from India."We are looking at increasing manufacturing and R&D sourcing to the European market from India in the years to come," he added.

General Motors Opens another Car Plant in India

General Motors Corp. (GM) opened a second factory in India that will double its annual production capacity as the U.S to meet the growing demand.GM's first plant in India, located at Halol, in the western Gujarat state. The company plans to make India a hub for the manufacturing of small cars, said Karl Slym, president and managing director of GM's local unit."Eventually, we can scale up the capacity to 300,000 units a year at this facility, depending on market demand," said Slym.
"We are considering this (plant) as an export hub for small cars." he added. The new factory was built with an investment of more than $300 million at Talegaon, near Pune city, in the western state of Maharashtra and it will employ more than 1,000 workers and have an initial capacity of 140,000 vehicles a year. That will increase the automaker's total annual capacity in India to 225,000 vehicles.
"As we enter our second century of doing business, there are few markets that will be more important," said Fritz Henderson, GM's president and chief operating officer."GM is serious about becoming a leader in India just like we are in many other markets around the globe."

Tata looking at alternate option for Nano

Tata Motors said it was looking for alternate options to manufacture its small car Nano from the company's other plants and work at Singur has been suspended. "In view of the current situation, the company is evaluating alternate options for manufacturing the Nano car at other company facilities," the company said it a statement.Plans to relocate the plant and machinery to an alternate site is under preparation, it added.
"Tata Motors has been constrained to suspend the construction and commissioning work at the Nano plant in Singur in view of continued confrontation and agitation at the site," it said. The decision has been taken in order to ensure the safety of its employees and contract labour who have continued to violently obstruct from reporting to work, it added.

Car manufacturers shows positive in August except Maruthi & Tata

Leading carmaker of the country reported increase in sales during August, except Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. Maruti Suzuki reported a decline of 10.15 per cent in domestic sales while Hyundai and General Motors posted 33.91 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively comparing with the same month last year.
Tata Motors also reported a 6 per cent decline in its vehicles sales at 15,573 units as against 16,620 units in the corresponding month last year. Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 5.06 per cent jump in its domestic sales in the month at 18,321 units as against 17,438 units in the same month last year.
