Editorial Review of the Hero MotoCorp CD Deluxe bike

If the CD Dawn is too bare basic for you, then have a look at the CD Deluxe. Essentially based on the Dawn, the Deluxe is well, a better version in terms of looks, comfort and safety. For starters, the bike boasts of a better over design that also includes a bikini fairing up front which houses the trapezoidal multi reflector headlight. Graphics are eye catchy for this segment and you also get optional alloy wheels for better aesthetics. The bike is offered in five color options and comes with 2.75” tyres on 18-inch wheel up front and at the rear.

The bike is powered by the same engine as the CD Dawn which means you get the tried and tested 97.2cc engine which puts out a respectable 7.8PS of power and 8.04Nm of torque. This engine is not about performance but about its character at low engine speeds. In typical traffic riding conditions where you need to gain momentum from low speeds in a high gear, this engine responds very well. Even with a passenger, the CD Deluxe’s engine doesn’t feel strained while riding at 20km/h in 4th gear! Further, the engine is very smooth and boringly reliable as well and is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. However, it isn’t really a highway machine and at speeds over 70km/h, the bike seems to run out of breath! As per the IDC norms, the engine gives 82.91 kmpl.
Comfort is pretty good with the well-padded seat and a robust suspension set-up that means that riding over broken roads with even three on board won’t have the suspension bottoming-out. A front disc brake however isn’t offered as an option.
Hero MotoCorp offers a warranty of 2 years or 30,000km and 6 free service benefits upto 12 months. The bike is priced between Rs 39,350 and Rs 40,200 (ex-showroom) in New Delhi.
