Editorial Review of the Hero MotoCorp Glamour PGM Fi bike
Hero MotoCorp is not only the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles but also understands the needs of its customers very well. Additionally, they are also open to ideas and like putting forward the best of technologies to its customers and the same reason why they were the first players in the 125cc segment to offer fuel injection as well. Way back in 2007, the 125cc Glamour was made available in the ‘Fi’ version. It makes use of the same PGM-Fi technology that powers so many machines from the Honda stable. There is absolutely nothing that distinguishes the normal Glamour from the Fi version except for the graphic change that mentions the ‘Fi’ feature on the dummy air-scoops. The Glamour range got a design makeover in 2011 and with a new sharper biking fairing, the bike looks pleasing in the 125cc segment. It is sold in three color schemes. Dual color scheme, black muffler and alloy wheels – all these do help bump up the aesthetics. Engine wise, the displacement, power and torque remains the same – 97.2cc, 9Bhp and 10.35Nm of torque. What has changed is the way the engine responds to the throttle inputs and the way it builds up speeds at low RPMs. Further, fuel injection systems also make use of the fuel in a very efficient manner and infact, as per the IDC norms, the Fi version improves over the carb one by almost 6%. This also means getting 75kmpl or so in city traffic with a light right wrist is possible! All the other traits of the bike remain the same. Being a Hero MotoCorp bike, it is very reliable and holds fantastic re-sale value. It also has a big bike feel to it and feels stable at highway speeds. Comfort is good and so is the suspension and the bike comes with a 3 year / 40,000km warranty and ‘6 free service’ benefit of upto 18 months. The only little flaw here is the pricing. A fuel injection system is expensive and hence this means that the ex-showroom price of the disc brake version stands at Rs 59,500 (ex-Delhi) which is seven thousand more than the carb one.
