Maruti Alto 800 versus Maruti Alto K-10

Maruti has been launching quite a few facelifted products this year and the latest car to hit the market from their stable is the all new Maruti Alto 800. Maruti Alto has been the highest selling car for Maruti in India and has spearheaded its growth and success in sales over the years. Maruti Alto 800 is the updated new Alto and we pitch against the Maruti Alto K-10 and see how it fares against its slightly bigger sibling in our comparison today.

Looks and design:

The latest Maruti Alto 800 has a contemporary design and brings modern styling to the aging Alto. It has petal shaped headlamps with top mounted indications looks fresh and it also brings well styled front grill which look fantastic. It has beefed up wheel arches and large tail lamps at the rear keeps the looks in proportion with the front of the car. The exterior build quality, fit and finish is satisfactory.

Maruti Alto K-10 has modern contemporary looks with modern headlamps, body colored bumpers and fog lamps. The rear has been designed keeping the front in mind and the tail lights and number plate positioning gel well with the rest of the car. It looks elegant and eye catching. It does resemble many similarities to the older Alto in design terms but improves upon the Alto slightly in terms of build quality, fit and finish.

Interiors – design, space and features:

Maruti Alto 800 comes with redesigned interiors and comes with two choices of interior colors. The dashboard looks contemporary but retains functionality. It has comfortable seats but the rear bench can be a little cramped but there is plenty of leg room for taller passengers in the front and the air conditioner is effective. Interiors grade including plastic quality is satisfactory in the Alto 800.

Maruti Alto K-10 has good interiors and feels better compared to the older Alto. It brings blue seat covers and door inserts and spacious interiors with plenty of head and leg room. Instrument panel comes with integrated MID displaying vital statistics like fuel, odometer and it also sports power windows for the front and internally adjustable rear view mirrors and some boot space to carry small luggage.

Engine – performance, power, torque, fuel economy, smoothness:

Maruti Alto 800 comes with a 796cc engine same as the older Alto and produces 47 BHP at 6000 RPM and 69 NM of torque at 3500 RPM. Despite producing power at higher revs it has good bottom end power that makes it easy to drive in the city. It has been rated by ARAI to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 22.7 kmpl from the petrol engine variant.

Maruti Alto K-10 comes with a powerful K-series engine which pumps out 67 BHP at 6200 RPM and 90 NM of torque at 3500 RPM from its 1 liter engine, 3 cylinder engine. It feels sporty to drive and offers good performance and drivability from all 5 gears and doesn’t feel underpowered like its older sibling with the air conditioning on. The fuel efficiency as per ARAI certifications is a healthy 20.2 kmpl.

Suspension – Ride, comfort and handling:

Maruti Alto 800 has good road manners and handles well for a car shod with thin tyres. It has a comfortable ride quality and the suspension has been well tuned to provide ample comfortable to the passengers inside. It comes with drum brakes and no option for ABS but despite that it manages to slow down from speed easily. The power steering is light but will help you stay in control and steer the car effortlessly at different speeds.

Maruti Alto K-10 has superior handling capabilities. It has very good ride quality and comfort levels and Maruti has setup up the car very well. It is quite capable of handling on the highways and city roads with aplomb. Alto has been shod with 155/65 R13 tyres which provide good levels of grip and stability while ensuring that ride quality doesn’t suffer. This car is an all rounder and thanks to the sporty nature of the engine it will appeal to those who enjoy driving in a spirited manner. The comfort levels will please all especially families looking forward to buying their first small car or upgrading from their Maruti 800.

Value for money – sticker price, standard features:

Maruti Alto 800 has been priced from (ex-showroom Delhi) 2.44 lakhs for the base Maruti Alto 800 Petrol, 2.76 lakhs for Maruti Alto 800 LX, 2.99 lakhs for Maruti Alto 800 LXI, Maruti Alto 800 LXI Airbag variant is priced at 3.10 lakhs. The pricing is good and the Alto offers plenty of new features at good pricing. The engine performance is also better than outgoing model.

Maruti has done a good job with the pricing of the Alto K-10 and given the features it brings it has been priced (ex-showroom Delhi) from a killer pricing of 2.32 lakhs for the Maruti Alto K-10 LXi and 3.28 lakhs for the top feature packed variant Maruti Alto K-10 VXi. It has been priced well compared to its competitors and brings plenty of features and performance at excellent value.

Verdict:

Maruti Alto 800 is a fantastic product in Maruti’s kitty now and they done a good job putting it together and given the features and performance it offers it has been priced very well. The Alto K-10 is another fantastic product and both these cars are close in terms of pricing. But the brand is Maruti and you need to decide on the car. Maruti has the best after sales and service in the country and the largest service network as well which makes it easy to own and maintain a Maruti.

    The Alto 800 front Gril shape not good compare to Alto & Eon (attached photo) so much of gap available in the front girl side, required for quick change for front Gril shape. otherwise its good.
