Mahindra XUV500 is the flagship SUV from Mahindra and certainly one of the best in the segment today and brings a lot of value to its customers and potential buyers have a lot to look for in this SUV. We compare it to one of the best selling MPVs in the market; Toyota Innova. Toyota has always been innovating with their cars and their best seller Innova happens to be one of the largest selling MPVs in the market making it difficult for any other manufacturer to beat it at its game. However Mahindra has brought out their secret weapon; XUV500 and they are ready to go out all guns blazing. We find out the features between these cars so that you can decide amidst all the confusing options which car is the right one for you.
Looks and design:
Mahindra XUV500 is the latest new SUV in the segment that brings contemporary styling to the market. It has a unique Cheetah inspired design element to it and gives it a very sporty feel to it. XUV500 has sharply designed front end which looks fantastic with the large headlamps and dual air dam design cues and integrated fog lamps on the front bumper which sports a highly sculpted look. Mahindra has left no stone unturned in making this SUV look its best and it shows in the build quality of the SUV and fit and finish levels which are all very good. The paintjob looks fantastic and has a deep shine to it.
Toyota Innova isn’t a racy sporty SUV but is an excellent MPV that a best seller in the market. It looks fantastic with its aggressive styling of its headlamps and proportionately designed long tail lamps. It has a well designed front with big grille, clear lens headlights and fog lamps which are integrated on the body colored bumpers. Innova sports stylish side steps and exudes a macho and very muscular shape and when you look at it from its side profile it has a towering stature. Toyota has given it a long wheelbase which helps improve its stability and interior space. Toyota has ensured top notch build quality as usual and the fit and finish is very good on this MPV.

Interiors – design, space and features:
Mahindra XUV500 is feature packed SUV that brings features such as voice guided GPS navigation system, mood-lighting, smart rain and light sensors, 4 speakers and 2 tweeter CD/MP3/iPod/USB music system with Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, cruise controls and voice commands. XUV500 is also a very spacious SUV offers comfortable seating for all its passengers and a 8 way adjustable driver seat. It has a cool new instrument panel which features intellipark, tyre-tronics, immobilizer, speedometer and tachometer and electric RVMs. XUV500 list of features is huge and this brand new SUV features plenty of storage areas in the car, the glove box has a laptop holder and space for your luggage. Mahindra XUV500 also has some special features such as coming home lights, rear demister and static bending projector headlamps.
Toyota Innova is a very good MPV and one of the best selling cars in the market segment even today and features some excellent innovation. Innova has very well designed interiors and very comfortable seats for the passengers and brings a multi adjustment and height adjustable driver seat which provides excellent lumbar support. It has innovative features and appealing interiors such as the dual tone elegant interior colors, control panels are located in a central wooden finish dashboard, functional instrument console with MID, Optitron Combimeter with Illumination control, Tachometer and Tripmeter and other features such as the innovative front map lamp. Innova has ample storage space throughout the car such as the overhead storage console and glove box apart from the very generous boot capacity of 620 liters of storage space.

Engine – performance, power, torque, fuel economy, smoothness:
Mahindra XUV500 comes with an excellent engine and offers good power to weight ratio, that makes it capable of handling on-road and off-road action. XUV500 brings us the 2.2 liter M-Hawk direct injection diesel engine which comes with their 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger and produces a maximum power of 140 BHP at 3750 RPM and 330 NM of torque at 2800 RPM. Mahindra has introduced their 6-speed transaxle with the all-wheel drive variant of this SUV. XUV500 offers plenty of low end torque city runs and offers stellar performance on the highways at triple digit speeds. XUV500 has very good drivability keeping it user friendly and easy to drive and ARAI has certified the car to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 15.1 kmpl.
Toyota has done well with their engine options on the Innova and it is available in two engine variants. Toyota Innova is available in the petrol engine variant which is a 2.0 liter EFI unit developing a max of 130 BHP at 5600 RPM and a maximum 181 NM of torque at 4000 RPM. ARAI has certified the petrol engined Toyota Innova petrol variant to deliver a fuel efficiency of 10.35 kmpl. Toyota Innova is also available in a diesel engine variant which develops 100 BHP at 3600 RPM and 200 NM of torque from 1400 RPM onwards. ARAI has rated Toyota Innova diesel to deliver a fuel economy of 12.99 kmpl. Innova has a low noise and vibration producing engine which offers excellent drivability owing its to smooth transmission. There is excellent power low down to carry a fully loaded car and power the car down on the highways.
