Expert Test Review

Toyota Etios Liva front

The Toyota Etios Liva looks identical to its sedan sibling, the Etios, save for the absence of the boot. The Etios Liva also has a 90mm shorter wheelbase but that’s about it. Look it from the front and you can easily mistake it for its sedan cousin. The Liva, like any other Toyota offering, has high levels of reliability and even panel gaps.

The interiors of both the petrol and diesel versions are the same. Space is another plus point of the Liva and contrary to its small size on the outside, the car is very spacious on the inside. While Toyota has improved the interiors of the car overtime, there is still room for improvement in terms of design and quality of materials used for trim..... read more

On the equipment front, you get a new 2-DIN audio with USB, Aux- In and a remote control for the unit, the driver seats comes with height adjust and combimeter with new blue illumination. Safety wise, the Etios Liva can be availed with dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.
Toyota sells the Liva in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol Liva is powered by Toyota’s 3NR-FE engine in a 1.2-litre engine that has been tuned perfectly well for Indian driving conditions. This all new engine generates a decent 80PS of power along with an equally decent 104Nm of torque. The diesel Etios Liva comes with the same D-4D motor as found on the Altis. The maximum power output from this engine in the Liva is 68PS while peak torque stands at 170Nm.

The Liva offers you one of the best combinations of ride and handling in the Indian hatchback segment today. To start with, visibility from the driver’s seat is terrific and the steering light to operate. The Liva, being light and small, is also very flickable in traffic and maneuvering this car is an easy affair. For typical Indian bad roads, which are full of washed away patches, potholes, etc, the Liva will surprise you with the way it rides, although ride cushioning could have been better.

Toyota Etios Liva dashboard

The interiors of the Toyota Etios Liva offer plenty of space and offer a big car feel. That said, Toyota can definitely provide more cushioning to the seats. Quality of plastics and other trim material can be improved too. While top-end variants of the Etios Liva are decently equipped, it could do with some more features.

What we like
Plenty of cabin space
What we don't like
Interior trim material could be better, needs more equipment and better seat
  • Toyota Etios Liva stereo
  • Toyota Etios Liva instrument binnacle
  • Toyota Etios Liva HVAC controls
  • Toyota Etios Liva air vents

Toyota Etios Liva front

The Toyota Etios Liva has a well balanced overall profile. It's long wheelbase gives it great interior cabin space. That said, the design does look a tad dated and more modern lines could make it look more contemporary.

What we like
Large, well carved profile
What we don't like
Design looks a bit dated
  • Toyota Etios Liva side profile
  • Toyota Etios Liva rear
  • Toyota Etios Liva head lamp
  • Toyota Etios Liva outside rear view mirror

Both the petrol and diesel engine offer adequate performance and efficiency. The engines have linear acceleration and have a well spread power band.

What we like
Diesel offers good performance
What we don't like
Petrol lacks top end punch

The Toyota Etios Liva has good road manners thanks to positive handling traits. It's predictable road manners make it easy to drive.

What we like
Good road manner
What we don't like
Steering is too light

The Etios Liva has comfotable suspension setup and the ride is good over most surfaces. Sharp bumps do seep through to the cabin though

What we like
Comfortable ride
What we don't like
Ride could feel more refined

Toyota Etios Liva G Petrol.
Posted on 6 Jun 12 at 6:21 am

Pros Road grip is good, steering is really soft and pick-up is good.

Cons Mileage is very poor. It gives 10 kmpl only where the ad reads 18.1 kmpl.

Attracted by the ad of 18.1 kmL, I purchased Toyota Etios Liva G Petrol but it gives 10 kml. Secondly the manufacturer has given only one reverse-gear light in the tail of the car. It gives very poor vision in night when you drive your car in reverse-gear to come out of parking place or anywhere else.

Mileage Disappointment
Posted on 13 Sep 12 at 2:04 pm

Pros Style n comfort

Cons Mileage

I have owned Liva G Petrol during march and till now , i have clocked 8200kms, i am very disappointed with the mileage they offered and in reality i achieved only 8 to 10 kms for the first 5000kms. Later i received around 11.5 to 12.5 till now and yesterday i did a road mileage test with the dealers which they showed me around 17.5 kms. The way they drove the car is not possible in present condition. They drove the car on a straight road with one liter petrol in seperate container at 40kmhr without shifting gears. which is not possible . I would like all your valuable comments regarding this matter.
