Tata Indica is a successful diesel hatchback by the Indian auto maker Tata Motors. It is popular with taxi operators also.
Tata Indica has overall length of 3675 mm, overall width of 1665 mm and overall height of 1485 mm. The car with ground clearance of 170 mm has boot space of 217 liter, and kerb weight of 995 kg. The 5-door car can sit 5 persons. The 1405 cc engine of the car delivers maximum power of 53PS@5500rpm and the maximum torque of 85Nm @2500rpm. The engine of the car has 4 cylinders and 2 valves per cylinder. The car with fuel tank capacity of 37 liter delivers the maximum speed of 135 km/hour km/hour. Tata Indica offers 17.2 km/liter mileage on high ways, 13.6 km/liter on city roads and overall it offers the mileage of 13.6 km/liter. The car has front brakes of ventilated disc and rear brakes of drum.
Tata Indica V2 DLS BSIII has various features standard in its segment of cars. These include air conditioner, power steering, cup holders, folding rear-seat, remote boot/fuel-lid, tachometer and child safety locks. The car is available in various colors like arctic silver, mint white, carbon black, salsa red, arizona ochre, cavern grey and amazon blue.
Currently there are two versions of Tata Indica available for sale in the Indian market. These are Tata Indica V2 DLE BSIII and Tata Indica V2 DLS BSIII. Tata Indica V2 DLE BSIII is sold at around 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while Tata Indica V2 DLS BSIII is sold at around Rs. Rs. 3.7 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Tata Motors keeps launching new variants of Indica to keep the interest of the buyers intact in the car. The company launched Indica Vista in August 2008. The car is 3.8 m long and 1.7 m wide. It also has more interior space than Indica. According to some reports, Tata Motors is considering to launch electric version of Indica in 2011.
