The Nissan Micra just like its big brother, the Sunny is spacious and easy to drive. Having been launched a long time back however it was time for the Micra to undergo a facelift but as a bonus Nissan has thrown in a CVT automatic gearbox too! This bit of news is not new to you as we had earlier talked about this. While the inclusion of the automatic gearbox is a sign of the new trend in the Indian auto market, let us first take a detailed look at the new Micra. The Micra has gone through a complete style change and now sports a new look both on the inside and outside. One look at this new facelifted Micra and is clear that is much better looking now. The grille is more distinct and now bigger thus carrying more presence. What also can be seen from the picture is that the fog light design has been changed from a round one to a triangular one. It is quite clear that the Micra has left all of its ‘feminine’ design traits. Rear styling also looks good with new LED tail-lamps and rear bumper. On the inside too there has been an attempt to remove any "feminine" design details and the completely new centre-console now looks smart. The black look and the absense of those round air vents add some newness to the cabin and though elsewhere little has been changed, thanks to the new centre-console it looks different compared to the current Micra. The new audio system has USB/ MP3/ Aux-in and when it comes to the overall features list it has features like intelligent key, start stop button, steering mounted controls plus now you get Bluetooth and a reversing camera. The new Micra has the 76 PS and 64 PS petrol and diesel respectively. Both engines are nippy and decent fun with the diesel impressing with its low-end grunt. The 160 Nm of torque in the diesel means city performance is good. The petrol also feels light and fun in the city. The CVTgearbox feels smooth and effortless too! Fuel economy of the new Micra is an impressive 18.44 kmpl for manual petrol and a brilliant 23.08 for the diesel. There are three variants of the new Micra called XL, XV and XV premium. The new Micra petrol starts at Rs 4.8 lakhs with the CVT at Rs 6.4 lakhs (ex-showroom). The diesel starts at Rs 6 lakhs (ex-showroom). For a detailed analysis read below.

The grille is more distinct and now bigger thus carrying more presence. What also can be seen from the picture is that the fog light design has been changed from a round one to a triangular one. There has also been a liberal dose of chrome with chrome finish on radiator grille and lower front grille. It is quite clear that the Micra has left all of its ‘feminine’ design traits. Rear styling also looks good with new LED tail-lamps and rear bumper. Speaking about the details the headlamps which are a black and chrome two-tone design with eye-lined chrome accent look cool while the v-shaped chrome grille looks much tighter. Overall both the front and the rear have recieved comprehensive facelifts and it looks much sharper now.

Cars like the Micra are meant to spend a lot of time in city traffic which also means they will be negotiating bumpy and congested roads. The Micra, thanks to its super tight turning radius, is very easy to drive in traffic. Another point in the favour of the Micra is the driver’s visibility which is much better than some of the other offerings in this price

Pros Features, Interior Space, Mileage, Ride Quality

Cons Black Interior, No Electric Folding ORVM

I bought Micra XL variant on 16th of July and have driven this car for about 536 kms. It clocked about 17.5 kmpl with ac on. I have driven it in city and on highway. Ride quality is pretty decent, enough space inside and even lookwise car is just good. There is some concern with acceleration in second gear with ac on. Other than that no problems. If this variant had electric folding outside rear view mirrors, would have been excellent. Thats the only option that I badly miss.

Pros Features, Nissan quality, size

Cons price not available, test drive not offered yet, Price not final yet

I have booked Micra XL version. I test drove i10 and Chevy Beat and almost bought Chevy beat. Then I heard about the Nissan Micra and I already know about Nissan quality and reliability. I hope it will be available for a test drive in July and the final and firm price will be available by then. Wether I buy the car or not entirely depends upon final price, actual features installed in the vehicle, test drive results, mileage and how the vehicle looks in white and blade silver color. I think certain vehicles don't look good in certain colors, an example is i10 in white color. Final choice of color is also critical.
