After the failure of the Maruti Versa, the success that the Eeco brought along for Maruti has been something surprising. The main reason for this has been the minivan’s pricing. For less than 40% extra cost over the Omni, you end up getting a much safer, modern, quicker, efficient, spacious and comfortable means of transporting people. Maruti also offers the Eeco with company fitted CNG and an air-conditioner as an option – this further increases its appeal to a wider audience. All versions also come with power steering as standard, thus making this a joy to drive even in congested city traffic.

The Eeco is more or less a Versa though with reduced overall height for better dynamics. It also gets an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine that is good on both power as well as efficiency. On the move, the engine is pretty smooth and you really don’t get the feel of driving a minivan. To promote the use of Eeco among families, the cabin has been spruced up with features accordingly. The Eeco, unlike some of the other offerings in the same price bracket, also offers remarkable stability at high speeds.

Expert Speak: If you are in the market for an affordable means of transporting your family, the Eeco is one of the best bets!

The Maruti Eeco was launched in 2010 and is a basic means of affordable transport. The exterior of the EECO is more on the lines of the Versa. The dimensions of the new car are quite similar to the Versa albeit with a revised height. The subtle headlamps with humble little tail lamps make it appear quite decent.Basic comfort is what would appear initially in your mind and you won’t be wrong as the interiors carry the same no frills design as the car’s exteriors. A decent dashboard with A/C controls and vents are in the limelight on the center console along with a humble yet useful speedo that tells you how fast you’re going. The plastics are of good quality with a fair feel. Cabin space has been utilized in such a way that it makes the EECO a car with loads of headroom, legroom and boot space. It is powered by a 1.2-litre G-Series engine which is a brand new motor from Maruti.

A decent dashboard with A/C controls and vents are in the limelight on the center console along with a humble yet useful speedo that tells you how fast you’re going. However, the steering appears to be a bit dull. The plastics are of good quality with a fair feel. The interiors don’t give the rich feel of wood or leather, but don’t appear to be cheap either.
