Ford New Endeavour
Editorial Review of Ford New Endeavour
Ford will give the Endeavour SUV an overhaul 13 years after it was first launched in India. The new SUV will be more premium inside and out, and try to do what the EcoSport has done in the compact-SUV segment, by offering a little bit more in a segment.
The new Ford Endeavour has been made from the ground-up, its new in terms of exterior-interior design, engines, underpinnings and features. Interior space has increased and become more practical thanks to the tall design. The 3.2-litre, 5-cylinder and 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engines have been reworked for performance as well as economy. While a new 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine has also been added for the Endeavour that will be offered internationally, it is not not expected to make its way to India.
Styling has become more mature outside, it becomes more contemporary now. The spare wheel earlier mounted on the tail-gate now moves under the body. LED daytime running lamps integrated into the headlamp units are offered, and so are projector headlamps.
Inside, the design has been overhauled to match Ford's global design language for SUVs. Ford's SYNC 2 system takes care of infotainment and is backed up by a 8-inch touchscreen on the centre console. Practicality is helped by the redesigned cabin, 60:40 split middle-row seats and 50:50 split third-row of seats. The seats fold flat to release 1,020-litres of luggage space. Interior comfort is enhanced thanks to better sound insulation and noise cancellation technology.
The chassis is now lighter and firmer, coil-spring suspension all around gives the Endeavour better dynamics. The addition of a Watt's linkage for the rear axle will also make the ride much manageable and comfortable over all-road and speed conditions. A new intelligent AWD system makes sure that the Endeavour is sure footed wherever it may be, with additional rear locking differentials and low-4x4 mode for the transfer case to make sure the SUV can take on critically bad off-road situations.
