BMW X1 Review
Editorial Test Drive Review of BMW X1
It is no secret that the Audi Q3 has been giving the X1 tough competition ever since its launch last year and so rightly within a few days the new X1 has come out. Though it is not a completely new model it does bring in some updates to the design and adds some freshness to the package. In the looks department the front bumper receives some tweaks and the headlight which looks the same has new internal detailing and get LEDs. The interior changes are namely the side of the centre console angled towards the driver is now shallower. The interior colour theme is now black which we like and the wood finish has now gone replaced by aluminium elements. The base variant has all the features that you would want though the other trim levels add more goodies like sports multi-function steering wheel with leather, multi-colour ambient lighting and matte wood finish. You also get additional optional equipment in form of glass sunroof, powered seats, 8.8 inch screen. What has not changed is the space inside as its still a bit cramped as before. The X1 now has only one engine option and that means the potent diesel engine remains. This engine now makes 181 bhp and is more powerful. Plus the old gearbox has now gone replaced by a new 8-speed one which is more smooth and more responsive. This new gearbox makes the X1 seem more fast than it is and helps it greatly. This diesel has enough grunt and feels quick. The ride of the old X1 was a bit crashy and a bit on the hard side but the new X1 takes care of that part as its much better now. The ride over bumps and potholes is much better though it is still not the best riding car in its class. The X1 still is a BMW which means that it is a hoot to drive and feels great on the limit. This is an SUV but being a BMW its steering and chassis makes it a lot fun. However the steering is very heavy at low speeds which means navigating is traffic is difficult. The new X1 has aloads of safety features as well! The X1 is priced at Rs 27.9 lakhs which means its more expensive now and it remains to be seen how the market will react to it especially the bigger new Honda CR-V is cheaper!
